Characterisation

At the Mercury Centre we offer a comprehensive choice of materials characterisation capabilities, providing valuable data that contributes to the improvement of the manufacturing process and/or materials performance. 

The Centre provides microscopy services including optical and electron, equipped with the latest analysis techniques. These facilities allow us to fully characterise a range of materials and component properties including surface finish, microstructure and chemical composition.

Specific examples that are of benefit to powder materials include:

• Micro-structural analysis
• Densification / porosity of materials
• Assessment of functionally graded materials

We also offer a full range of sample preparation facilities from standard mounting, polishing and etching, preparing specimens for Transmission Electron Microscopy.
